# A direct line for each person, on whatever they are using

A direct number and voicemail box for one person, reachable from a desk phone, the web app, or a mobile.

## The problem

Small teams often share one number, so every call lands on whoever picks up first and nobody can be reached directly.

## How User Phone Extension works

An extension is one person's identity on the phone system: a short internal number, a direct line from outside, and a voicemail box of their own. It follows the person rather than sitting on a desk — the same extension rings a desk phone, the web app, and a mobile, so a call finds them whether they are at their desk or not.

Extensions are the unit the rest of the system is built on. Call queues distribute to them, ring groups ring several at once, and IVR menus route to them by name or number. Adding a person to the phone system means adding an extension.

Every user on a plan gets an extension, and you can add or remove users at any time. A phone that rings for a place rather than a person, such as a lobby phone, is a shared-device line.

## At a glance

- Rings a desk phone, the web app, and a mobile at the same time
- A direct-dial number from outside plus a short internal number
- Its own voicemail box, reachable from anywhere
- Moves with the person, not the hardware

## Who it is for

Any business where more than one person answers the phone and callers need to reach a specific individual rather than whoever is nearest.
