Answer every call instantly and send it to the right place
The menu that answers a call and routes it — press 1 for sales, 2 for support — so callers reach the right person without a receptionist.
The problem
Without a menu, every call goes to one person who then has to transfer most of them — and the caller waits twice.
How IVR | Interactive Voice Response works
An IVR — Interactive Voice Response — is the recorded menu that answers a call and routes it: press 1 for sales, 2 for support, or hold for reception. It answers on the first ring, at any hour, and sends the caller straight to the extension, queue, or ring group that can actually help them.
A good IVR is short. Three or four options, each obviously distinct, and a way through to a person. Menus that run to eight options and three levels deep are the reason people press zero.
The after-hours menu is often the one that earns its keep: a different greeting outside business hours, routing to voicemail or an on-call mobile, so nobody rings out into silence at seven in the evening.
IVRs are included on Business. Essentials includes one IVR, ring group or shared voicemail, and more are available as add-ons.
